The cross-fertilization of Lawrence and his wife Anna Halprin’s artistic practices has been relatively well documented - from the Experiments in Environment workshops (1966 & 1968) to the development of The RSVP Cycles (1969). At first fueling Lawrence’s exploration into experimental costuming, Anna’s performances and choreography tested the limits of the human body and its interaction with the environment, inspiring his studies of dancers’ movements and energy. The fluid quality of line in these studies is visually reminiscent of the gestural and sensual This is My Beloved series, created during Halprin’s service in WWII.
